Character assassination

WALANG patawad naman itong mga sipsip sa kumpare kong si Gov. Espines na maski New Year’s eve ay nagkakalat sila ng paninirang text messages, blaming others for his problems even accusing ang malapit sa akin na media practitioner as being part of a “demolition job” sa kanya.

Nakakapanggigil ng laman, nakaka-high blood, nakakabiwisit dahil unang-una, “in the spirit of Christmas season” dapat ay ceasefire muna sa mga siraan at batikusan.

Are they that desperate para siraan ang ilang tao, kasama na itong highly respected journalist who’s a very close family friend, para lang bilugin si Pareng Espines at gatungan ang emotions niya in his present crisis.

One such text message ay ipinadala sa isang pamangkin kong opisyal ng bayan. Obvious na gustong iparating sa akin ang laman ng message na yun. Syempre we investigated further at nalaman din namin kung kanino galing yong original text message na yun. Poor guy. Napaka-amateur.

So para alam ng taong bayan, here’s his text message to Pareng Espines — “Gov for ur info lng. Ni relieved c col verzosa sa pwesto dahil ang sabi ng pnp at dilg may anak syang re-electionist sa lingayen. Bat c col chan ang ipinalit may bayaw naman syang tumatakbo n mayor? Di b alam ng pnp at dilg yun? Di rin b nila alam na u cannot be designated twice as a provl director? Pano yun eh galing syang ilocos norte? Yung article ni eva visperas eh relieved daw c col verzosa dahil daw sa jueteng at expose ni mayor orduňa sa 900M payola. Kasama yata tong c eva sa demolition job sa inyo gov?

Isa’t kalahating bobo pala itong texter na ito eh. He is not aware of the sacrifices and honest work being done by the person he cited. I know the integrity of professionals like Eva Visperas, at alam ng lahat yan na handa akong ipaglaban sila maski kanino. (Ang texter lang ang Double B, as in BWISIT at BOBO, ang hindi nakaka alam nyan).

To the texter and his cohorts, I say to them – Don’t be judgmental if you do not know all the circumstances and the facts involved sa issues. Malamang utak-pulbura itong texter na ito. He may be reading newspapers pero hindi naman naiintindihan at intrigero lang talaga dahil ibang mag-interpret ng mga articles.

The texter obviously does not understand the work of journalists. Hindi pwedeng one-sided ang news. Bakit, pag nagpa-presscon ba ang kabila hindi na dapat isulat ang sinabi? Pero kung sila ang magpatawag ng presscon, labas ang mga sinabi nila sa media pero may complaint ba ang kabila? None! Galit ako dahil while he and his group can’t even thank or appreciate journalists who write positive stories about his principal, they have the temerity to accuse them of bad faith and bias if they don’t like what was written.

The texter is obviously unaware that the writer he accuses to be biased has also praised and defended Pareng Espines in some of her past articles. So kung tunay na nagbabasa sya, he should be the first to understand that it’s simply being factual to write about what others stated in their presscons. Paninira na ba yong sulatin din ang sinabi sa presscon ng kabila? Puro “praise-release” kay Pareng Espines lang ba ang gusto nilang lumabas sa media? I suggest they read and understand well before judging.

Kami ni Gov. Espino ay magkumpare but if the people around him doubt the motives of professional journalists whom I highly respect and work with closely, it means pinagdududahan na rin nila ako!

Lahat ng mga lumalabas, aralin nyo muna. Ang naniniwala sa sabi-sabi, walang bait sa sarili.

Napapa-isip ako tuloy sa mga media handlers nitong kumpare ko na ewan kung anong klaseng utak meron sila. If there is an issue sa media, and tinitira ay yong messenger, the reporter.

They should have done their homework and long prepared themselves for a real political battle instead of twisting facts and maligning others.

There is no God higher than the truth, sabi nga ni Mahatma Gandi. They must learn to face the issue squarely as this paper’s motto invokes: No man is to be reverenced more than the truth.

Malalaman din in the end kung itong mga sinansabin nilang “detractors” ni Pareng Espines ay may ill motives at pang self-interests lang. They must remember na ang mga duming ibinabato, babalik din yan sa nambato.

Right now, ang wish ng mga tao sa pangangampanya ay idadaan sa ganda ng plataporma.
