Pareng Oca’s clout Obos na?

FOR the first time since its conversion into a chartered city some 60 years ago, Dagupan is now   blessed with construction of a pedestrian overpass over its most traveled highway in barangay Tapuac, especially in the vicinity of the Dagupan City National High School and Edna’s School, including Lyceum Northwestern University. Cause of this unprecedented boon for our long harassed street crossers is Speaker JdV of our 4th District who financed the project from his Priority Development Assistance Fund.

This is minor addition to JdV’s series of infrastructure contributions for the city’s welfare which also included South Korea’s pledge to donate $2 million to finance the construction of a bangus processing plant in the city, also worked out by  the Speaker, himself. Soon to be completed is the Dawel-Pantal diversion road and new Pantal bridge, a multi-million project constructed and funded with Japanese aid… joined through JdV’s unmatched diplomacy.

Other pedestrian over passes are also being eyed to ease pedestrian congestion on Perez Boulevard where stands the University of Luzon… and where vehicular traffic from the city’s main market center merges with that of the boulevard.

We’ve always suspected that, in view of the constant, if on-and-off, appearance of former Gov. Oca Orbos on the screen of the boob tube as talk show host, Oca is quietly hinting on a chance to make a devil-may-care come-back to his former post at Urduja.

And Oca’s motive recently surfaced with the ad event of PADER (Pangasinan Advocacy for Democratic and Electoral Reform) allegedly mobilized by a provincial network of young professionals, traders, students, farmers, including members of the clergy to convince  Orbos  to run for governor again.

We think we know this Bani boy well enough to say that his unrelenting TV ventures were aimed at reviving name recall among his former constituents, especially in Binmaley. We can’t help remaining skeptic about an alleged province-wide survey conducted by some religious and civic groups pointing to a strong clamor for the former governor to stage a come-back.

Even Bulletin correspondent and PUNCH columnist Jun Velasco is wondering if the erstwhile Orbos clout still exists.
