What a mess?

The move to oust Gonz T Duque as president of the Pangasinan Press Club before his term expires is suspect. It’s timed during the advent of the holiday season and the forthcoming national/local elections early next year.

Is it a coincidence or pre-arranged? What a mess?

Since the assumption of Gonz as PPC head, the reforms he has instituted was vehemently opposed by some members. A fighter to the hilt and an incorruptible media personality, he crossed the line between friendship and good governance all for the sake of the club. And, he does not care.

One of the reforms he initiated that didn’t sit well into the minds of the supposedly workaholic, dignified and legitimate members of the fourth estate was the prohibition of cash-out given by invited guests during the PPC weekly sponsored Media In Action. In whatever way you look at it, an appearance fee will likely be the reason behind it. This should not be the case. He stopped it.

It defeats the purpose of the encounter between the forth estate members and the guests where issues of paramount importance are discussed in a no holds-bar session. Allowing it to happen virtually converts the press club into a collection agency.

Politicians know the work ethics of some newspapermen. It’s an open secret. They are aware of their modus operandi.  There are acronyms that best describe their writing output like AC, DC and PC. If the public don’t give a damn to some members of the club, it’s their own making. Respect for the club is what matters most to him.

Gonz is known for his courage. He is a man of principles. He does not run away from a good fight. He does not need the PPC to make a name for himself.

As he said, “He calls spade, a spade”.
