More on the DCNHS dream

By Gonzalo Duque

MS. LINDA Magno is in town.

One of the most sought-after lady singers in the 60’s  up to the 80’s, Atchi Linda, now Mrs. Cloutier, will entertain old friends and the local media at the family residence along Rizal street, beside the Iglesia ni Cristo chapel.

I was only in high school when she was the rage of music lovers all over the country. We Dagupeños are proud of her because she was the best then, even outclassing the famous names in music like Carmen Soriano, Pilita Corrales, Carmen Pateña and all of them.

She will perform at the Liwawa Foundation of Ms. Lina Tan and Baby Balingit on Jan. l7 at the Warehouse.

Welcome back home, Atchi Linda.

A lot of reactions have been aired regarding my last week’s column item on the Dagupan City National High School.

Nelson Sotto, close aide of Speaker Joe de Venecia, said “the Speaker will be too happy to support your idea of a modern DCNHS building, but the initiative should come from the school officials themselves.”

Ayaw ni Speaker ang spoonfeeding, you know that,” and added that the Speaker has already given the school a big budget for a building that was inaugurated some four or five years ago.

Nelson is correct, but our powerful Speaker can initiate a modern and integrated  city high building, as also envisioned  by his older brother Basic Petroleum Chairman-President Oscar de Venecia, a city high alumnus,  who graduated at age l4 in that prestigious but ill- housed and ill-equipped school.

Before  2005 closed, I had a good chat with a group of city high’s bright alumni  the likes of Victor Manela, Arturio Bustria, Dr. Roland Capito and teacher Mita Sta. Maria. They were all upbeat about the idea of a DCNHS modern complex.

I remember, another de Venecia, former Councilor Antonio de Venecia, father of Councilor Alex and bar topnotcher Joan, was behind the construction of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Pangasinan building.

Kuya Tony was then IBP president when he initiated the idea. That’s it.

It can be done, with the Speaker right behind it. The building was even named after their late father, former Judge Jose de Venecia Sr.

Let’s go for it, city highers and supporters!

Of course, when I speak of city high, the West Central Elementary School is not far behind.

That smaller school is even historical. It was there where General Douglas MacArthur lived during World War II.

Kuya Joe, how about it?

I wish to thank Kuya Joe de V for endorsing my brother, Pingcoy for the senate, along with Governor Victor Agbayani.

But sadly, my brother is not keen about it. In fact, he is carefully avoiding the subject during our conversations.

But let’s watch how future events will unfold because Pingcoy has become good national media copy for topping performance surveys among PGMA’s cabinet members.

In a few days, the Philippine Medical Association of Georgia led by Dr. Victor Bautista and my sister, Dr. Grace Silva, will be in town, particularly at the Regional Medical Center for a week-long (Feb. 3-9) mission for the poor and indigents.

I have consistently written about this because I want more Pangasinenses to avail themselves of their cure and health diagnosis. They are the best in the world and their services are free.

You must congratulate and thank Director Jess Canto for leading the coordination work.
