Politically motivated?

Re: Pertinent tax laws

Taxes are a fact of life. Some are justified some are not. I have to wonder why these entities, who been paying these taxes for ten years, just now have decided it shouldn’t be paying those taxes. If the taxes are illegal, and if I owned one of those schools, I would be looking for new administrators and lawyers. Paying ten years of taxes when it wasn’t legal can become very costly.

Somehow, I find the timing of the schools’ displeasure with these taxes politically motivated. These schools didn’t complain during Mayor Lim’s first administration, nor did they complain during Al Fernandez’ administration.

Since Madam Belen has been looking towards the next election, I have to think that she has her fat grubby hands in this mess. After all, if the schools win, she wins. If the schools lose she still wins by backing the schools. I would not be a bit surprised if she has been having backroom talks with the school owners all along.

(Editor’s clarification – the schools’ tax review was prompted by Mayor Lim’s public statement describing schools as “tax cheats”.  Vice Mayor Fernandez never issued any statement on the issue).
