Bataoil: friendly but firm, uncompromising
By Gerry Garcia
CHIEF Police Supt. Leopoldo Bataoil was often on TV when he was police director in the Northern Police District under the NCR Police Office and fellow-Pangasinenses whom he had previously served as provincial director for some years watched proudly and wistfully.
Gregarious POL is back again, this time as director of the Philippine National Police Region I Office.
Underneath his boyish and amiable exterior, Supt. Bataoil is a stern, uncompromising director and he made no bones about making this clear: “Never should anyone of my boys in Region I be involved in kotong or hulidup operation,”
This writer had his first chance to see and meet the Regional honcho through Jun Velasco, his bosom pal at a turn-over rite in Lingayen. Up close, Pol is respectful and not given to bragging.
His vision is inspiring, pledging to rally his men to maintain the high standard of police service in the region.
Pol’s winning qualities are natural and impressive, requiring no envelope-handouts to bring them out.

The new PNP regional director’s latest mission has ordered all units in the region to be vigilant as an alleged mobile shabu laboratory is moving from place to place not only in Pangasinan but most probably in the entire region. Shabu is a common short term for methamphetamine hydrochloride — an illegal drug.

While efforts have not practically bogged down to stir Con-ass in Congress, despite a 5-man support from a still adamant senate, our Speaker JDV still has something up his sleeves to keep the sun shining bright for his fellow-Pangasinenses still awaiting the shift to a unitary parliament form of government.
We are referring to the joint JDV-China endeavor made earlier this year whereby the Chinese government thru its ambassador pledged to finance a feasibility study for the construction of a pipeline system that will serve as flood control and water supply structure for the rampaging waters from the mountains of San Roque Dam in San Manuel. Conversion of this flood control system into water for drinking use says JDV, should be remarkable.
The Chinese ambassador has also proposed establishment of a China-Philippine research and development center at the sprawling Bureau of Fisheries (BFAR) research center in Bonuan Binloc, this city.
