Hail P’Noy, Mar, Liberal Party!

By Gonzalo Duque

IN case you’d think the ngasngasan sa city hall is all bad, think again. It’s good for our democratic check and balance dynamics.

Fight is better than onor-onor, it augurs for checking abuse by the authority in power. Mabuhay ka, Vice Mayor Belen. Whatever your motivations, democracy is alive and kicking in Dagupan because of you.

Mabuhay din ang mga kaalyado niyang kinatawans. Ditto with Lone Ranger Brian Lim. Benjie’s son is one a father and mother can be proud of. One man against all. Councilor Red Erfe Mejia is too cool, suave like his erpat, but keen.

In other words, we have a dynamic city council we can be proud of. Not true that there’s too much politics in the city. There’s only lively politics. As we predicted they would all cool off, because by nature, all of them are peace-loving and well-meaning public officials.

And to Benjie, we are cumpadres, don’t forget that. He is a good, great mayor. The city is clean as a whistle. He put a stop to the ugly illegal fishpens. Ex Kapitan Apring Dawana can go back to America in peace, contented again, reconcile with City Agriculturist Emma Molina again, because our fishing waters are back in good shape again. Never did we think that Apring was doing it, deploring the illegal fishpens because he didn’t like the face of Kapitan Lino Fernandez. No, Kuya Apring just cares for the fishing grounds, encouraging the fisherfolk to do their thing in a legal and proper way, preserving our precious source of marine wealth. Mabuhay kayong lahat!

Presided by Liberal Party president Mar Roxas, the convention oozed with great hope that it would stay strong, with President Noynoy providing the inspiration. Let’s help him succeed as our national leader. He inspires because he has a clean and honest heart.

It’s true he fumbles from time to time, is unprepared at times, but that’s the way of leadership. He is not ambitious, did not plan to be president, abhors power, but fate, nay, destiny catapulted him where he is.

People could tell if their leader is pure and true. They rally behind a good man. We are through with steely, demagogic leaders. We may have a fumbling leader but well-meaning, honest, true, patriotic leader. Soon, mark our word, he will develop into a strong leader, strong in the sense of one people uniting behind him, not pay lip service to then spit at his name when he turns his back.

We pity some commentators who have no background in political science badmouth P-Noy because he does not project the image of the leader they have in mind.

Why, are they better than him? They are myopic, they only see the hole in the doughnut, instead of lending a hand to give their leader strength, they are tearing at his vitals, they blabber their way to destroy a good name who turned his back to a life of comfort and answered the call of leadership. Aren’t we grateful? Not all can become president. But listen to their perorations, blasphemies, obscenities we wonder why they are allowed to waste precious radio time and promote a negative window in looking at things.

It was because of love of country that P-noy took up the cudgels of the presidency.

It’s our wish, as we shared this with fellow LPs, that we in the sidelines of power, should learn to be patient, give room, share our strength and help move the country forward.
