Re: Happy for cancer patients here

Mr. Ruben Rosario,

Thank you for working on this complicated life saving devices. Do you work in the bay area in it’s Varian headquarters in Palo Alto?

My concern is use of these machines that are like the double edge sword. If the personnel are properly trained and the equipment properly maintained, I am sure they will be a big boost in limiting growth of cancer and as you say “cure” but if not will result in harming cancer patients as documented in the NYT report I had posted.

I remember taking my grandmother for daily radiation treatments, 1970, in St Luke Hospital Quezon City and would have welcomed a treatment center like this in Villaflor Hospital in Dagupan City. We were just lucky we have a place in Dapitan Manila and did not have to commute to Dagupan after treatments.

As recently as a week ago, my wife underwent 33 radiation treatments from our local hospital and I have grilled her radiology oncologist on the equipment used and the competencies of the therapist who had treated her. I had also ask them to explain to me the graphs they analyzed on a daily basis and effects of the invisible rays they are pointing on her neck, face and throat.

I hope we all do not go only by the reputation of the technology used or the cancer centers we go to but would go to the people who actually use the machines.

As I watch Michael Douglas almost fully recovered on TV surfing in Hawaii and far different when he was being radiated in his throat and neck for cancer in quite poor shape as featured in New York Post. It gives us hope for a full recovery for people who undergo the radiation treatment.
