The difference

WE earlier thought of writing the head of this column article as “The truth and nothing but the truth.”
But that would be overstating the obvious. Our readers know for a fact that in this paper, no one of its columnists or reporters is allowed to print any falsehood.
As its slogan puts it “No man is to be reverenced more than the truth.” That was a quote from Socrates, the father of philosophy.
When you exaggerate the truth, it becomes suspicious. And so we simply write as we write. Our readers know if we are telling the truth, right Publisher Ermin?
This policy has kept the Punch one of the most trusted community papers in the country. That’s why contrary to a claim by an interested party that specializes in half-truth, the Punch is the most read, most sought paper in Pangasinan. Ask any newsstand vendor. He or she will tell you, without equivocation, “The Sunday Punch.” It’s been so since its founding more than 55 years ago.

Last weekend, three alipores of Mayor Benjie Lim motored to Bicol, at the National Convention of the Philippine Jaycees headed by our very own Ryan Ravanzo as its national president. The three alipores were Councilor Brian Lim, Red Erfe Mejia and former Councilor Nick Aquino. What’s their purpose?
Ay, makapasinaguem, agagui! They wanted to destroy the new Philippine Jaycess president.
Sadly, however, to them, the national Jaycess organization did not allow them to do their thing. Say gusto ra agagui, manderal.
Out of topic ira… but they were there, banget na sakey a too so labay dan iwakawak.
Thank God, ag ira inaboloyay convention committee ya mangitayak na dotak. They forgot that the majority of Jaycees of the Philippines would not allow a destructive agenda to besmirch a national agenda. Katon simempet iran kapalpaltak, agagui. Praise God, praise good taste!

Amta yo nen kaksilan mi ed Jaycees, a similar thing happened.
Then the father of Brian, our incumbent mayor Benjie Lim was president of the Bangus Jaycees of Dagupan City – not, for the record, as per decision of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Dagupan “Bangus” Jaycees.
There was a rift then between two Jaycees groups – our Dagupan Jaycees, Inc., the orig, and the hastily organized Bangus Jaycees of Dagupan headed by Benjie Lim.
Ok, to make a long story short, there was this Benjie Lim buddy – the late Larry Cabuang – who bolted Benjie’s camp and threatened to unmask Lim in a national convention that elected him president.
Before the national event, Benjie approached us, Chito Samson and the other stalwarts of the DJD, Inc. to help him win the JCP presidency. Since it would be a moment of glory for Dagupan to produce a national Jaycees president, we acceded to his request. And so he got the Presidency without any obstruction from his local (Dagupan) opponents. National honor la tay pantotongan, agagui.
Now, now, anto balet so ginawa na anak ton Brian, assisted by Red Erfe Mejia and Nick Aquino ed Bicol? They motored to Naga with the sole intention to destroy a man who just won the JCP presidency unopposed.
Can you see the difference in approach in leadership, gals and guys?
What kind of leaders do you see? Be the judge.

In the local front, reports about jeeploads of non-Dagupeño would–be voters or flying voters came to Dagupan to register.
Nitan kila kabaleyan. Victory at all cost. Anggapoy pidomaan to ed impan-rehistro na sakey ya akolaw, ya si Mrs. Belen Tamondong Fernandez, orchestrated by Nan Soy, Nick Aquino and Mayor Benjie himself.
Saol so gabay dan nagawa! Ta amta yo, aray true-blue Dagupeños inkoliseng dan maong itay panderal na election process.
Makalasian ira, awa, Manny? Makapoy ya gawa itan, kabaleyan. Panon ya ipiya so gobyerno ed aray masaol? Ay Dios ya manangisalba lawas, agyo kumon papaolyan so ciudad tayo! It’s been mired in corruption! Give us a true and corruption-free governance, please!

NOTES: We met a future president of the country last Thursday – senatorial bet Benigno “ Bam” Aquino.
He was the guest of CSI Sari-Sari Store Fair of vice Mayor Belen Tan Fernandez.
A look-alike of his National Hero uncle Ninoy Aquino, Ban is eloquent speaker and superlatively brilliant.
