Re: Viewpoints

Archbishop Cruz, as a Catholic I agree with many of the teachings of the Church. I also had the privilege attended a Catholic high school as a teenager. Our opinions part, though, when it comes to birth control.

As a parent I have always tried to provide the best for my children. I would not been able to do this had my wife and I not practiced family planning. You, sir, have the comfort of sitting in your office, having a good dinner then going to bed. To put it bluntly your only obligation is to your Church. You do not have to worry about how you will be able to feed and educate six or more children.

Imagine yourself as a father trying to sleep while your crying children keep you awake because they were sent to bed hungry or they were sick and you did not have the money to alleviate their pain. Please try to imagine being a father trying to feed and educate your wife and six children on a hundred pesos a day.

What, sir, is more compassionate, sentencing the children to a life misery, malnutrition and possibly early death or preventing conception?

Birth control is not killing. It is prevention conception. It is a means of providing the best for the children we bring to this earth.
