Ok kayo, P’noy and Chiz, for ban of self-serving billboards
By Gonzalo Duque
MINUS the over-damning of former President Gloria Arroyo (wala na sa poder, inaatake pa ng katakot takot ng mga alipores), P-noy’s recent moves were highly commendable and inspiring.
The “wangwang” was good. But this latest one — banning self-serving billboards advertising about projects having been done or sponsored or initiated by Mr. or Ms. Politician — is the best.
Actually, it was a senate bill filed by Senator Chiz Escudero and highly endorsed by President Noynoy.
In case you don’t know yet, this column has been advocating that since way back.
What would be helpful billboards are those that name particular projects indicating size of roads or bridges and data on the start and target completion of the projects. But please huag ng isama ang mga pangalan at pangit na mukha nila ng mga pulitiko lalo na ngayon na wala ng eleksyon
When we were vice governor, we sponsored a provincial ordinance advocating the same. We should have one local ordinance in Dagupan and the other LGUs too. Those who unabashedly display their names in big bold letters and their faces — good loking or not — should know that nadederal so agew na taong bayan. Pampangasi yo pala, mga pulitikong di naman gwapo tan madisplay na angkakabaleg ya oraka ra ed malinlinis ya kalsada, nadederal so agew na karaklan. Kumon amta yo tan. Balbalawen daka yo.
An old school principal told us, “how can they (politicians) be so unmindful of the public’s disgust with their over-display of self serving faces on the billboards!”

Back to the practice by some administration officials with a penchant to libel and slander our past president Arroyo.
Wala na sa Palasyo, hindi pa hinihintoan. Be warned about the curse of overkill. You know, the ordinary Filipino has sympathy for the underdog. These people like partylist Congressman Walden Bello who abused his parliamentary privilege at the expense of Gloria Arroyo, now a congresswoman, has earned negative points for the administration.
There is a limit to free speech. Mag file na lang kung may substantive na proeba ang mga kaso sa korte. Hintoan na yang below the belt attacks. Wa class. Laos.

We congratulate Akira Futagoishi, a respected Japanese national residing in Dagupan, who has been listed one of the l00 most influential Japanese in the country and in his own home country. He is active in civic clubs and the local YMCA. Akira has been helping Filipinos in various programs. We are happy to have him around.

Reports reaching us about the ongoing PRISSA games say that there’s a lot of excitement out there.
The spirit of healthy competition is laudable. One day, the University of Luzon beat the University of Pangasinan team. On another day, our LNU Dukes beat University of Luzon. Then UPANG beat Colegio de Dagupan, which in turn beat LNU.
It’s a win-loss-win-loss affair. What matters is sportsmanship is being observed in its purest sense. Mabuhay kayo, winners and losers.
