PRC to bring gov’t closer to people

By Gonzalo Duque

GOOD news to nursing board exam takers.

The government regulation body – Professional Regulation Commission – will hold the Nursing Board Exams in Region 1 on July 3 and 4 this year and no longer in Manila or Baguio, for the benefit of our comprovincianos.

We were asked by the PRC to offer 101 rooms from the Lyceum Northwestern for the purpose. Gladly, madams and gentlemen. We are wondering why it only asked the University of Luzon and UPANG a lot less number of rooms.

Are you still wondering? Hope not. LNU, you know, has more modern facilities … ahem …

I read in a local paper – is it the Examiner? – about a “chismis” that LNU is physically expanding and modernizing , hence, you now see the university’s frontage directly facing MacArthur highway in Tapuac District along Ruby’s restaurant.

Thanks to the Examiner for the nice write up. We are, indeed, doing everything in cadence with the times. Keep in touch so you won’t be overtaken by events.

Back to the PRC’s pro-province universities policy. Let’s not forget that our late brother, Dr. Ado Duque, fought strongly for the setting up of a PRC office in the region. We could only imagine him smiling where he is now because of PRC’s latest action.

Thank you.

Thanks, too, to our publisher Ermin for taking more than passing interest on our new task to write the history of Pangasinan.

But being a gentleman of the first order, Ermin, however, begged off to be a member of the proposed Pangasinan Historical Commission because it was he who proposed it.

Look at how great oaks grow from little acorns.

The founding of the province literally came from an innocent chat we had with a fellow columnist cumpadre. When he proposed that we float it in this column, the idea caught fire, and then our dynamic and thoughtful governor picked it up. The rest is history.

For this opportunity and privilege, we are forever grateful to our favorite governor.  The rest is history.

We hope to work more closely with our partner in this project, Board Member Alfie Bince and newly elected Board Member Jaming Libunao in the hope that a provincial ordinance be crafted to put up a permanent provincial historical commission. This will be the first step towards teaching our children the province’s past.

As they said, and we agree, we cannot know the future unless we know our past.
