Advice to voters

Gonz Duque

By Gonzalo Duque

AMID the confusion of electors in choosing their bets in the 2010 polls, we suggest the following guidelines, to wit:

If they go for the brainy, it’s Gibo.

If candidate with a heart, Noynoy.

If moneyed, Villar.

If it’s macho-ism, it’s Erap.

The other presidential bets are insignificant.

Many are intrigued by Gibo’s brains. They should not be. He is a bar topnotcher and excellent in public forums.

We say Noynoy represents the heart because of the mother’s legacy of love, which has endeared millions. Noynoy, who is also brainy, has the compassionate character of Nanay Cory and Tatay Ninoy’s uncompromising fight for the downtrodden.  Regarding Manny – or Money Villar, his declared – or misdeclared – income speaks for it. Bilyonaryo ya mga igan but hard-earned money yan.

Erap’s macho image should be summed up this way, “mayaman sa harap.”(what ever that means). Ano ba yong “harap?” Your guess is as good as mine.

Ok, now you know whom to vote. Mabuhay……… o matamlay ang Pinas!

We learned our friend, excellent lawyer and former governor and assemblyman Vic Millora is also gunning for a senate seat.

Manong Vic, Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) chairman, floored the late and former vice president Doy Laurel during a debate at the Batasang Pambansa, which won the applause from the gallery. Sometimes dubbed as the “mighty might” of the Batasan during the Marcos years, Manong Vic, also former president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), outwitted the brilliant Arturo Tolentino in a debate in the National Parliament. He will be a big asset of the senate.

Many reacted to our column last week about our critique of menfolk and womenfolk’s cavalier treatment of the mode of dressing in public ballrooms especially at the city plaza.

Tama raw yong sinulat natin dito na nawawala na ang dress code in public socials.

We would like to add: the use of DI’s… “Dance Instructors”  is  being abused. Let’s lessen or avoid the DI’s, please.

On January 21 to 24, we shall have our first ever-integrated PRISSA meet in the regional level in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Thank you Gov. Spines for allowing the use of the Don Narciso Ramos Sport Center.

How did this public – private initiative to promote sports come about?

Ahem… tayo ang proponent. We got all our good friends… CHED chairman Manny Angeles, State Colleges and Universities Association president Dr. Saturnino Pacbas and Philippine Sports Commissioner Harry Ang Ping to sign with yours truly… a document of the big event, en-route to producing a national pool of sport champions.

By the way, we have seen the tremendous transformation of the country’s premier sports facility at the Rizal Memorial complex. Harry has been stressing fiscal discipline in the management of the PSC aimed at upgrading athletes, not the sport officials.

Bakit ba ka-spoiled brats ng mga opisyales sa PSC? Mabuti siguro na mag barilan na sila… an exciting sport … to eliminate themselves and give way to the young, reform-oriented sportsmen.

On January 24, the very first regional academic and cultural Olympics between government and private schools will be held also in Lingayen. It’s also a historic “first” in the Philippines.

In all modesty, we designed this novel program when we were PACU (Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities) president.

In regard to our other idea about the official chartering of the province, we are happy to report that April 5, 1572 has been picked as our official date by the committee to be Pangasinan’s founding date.

We are Liberal Party official, but we are grateful to Governor Spines for giving us the chance to preside over the research and study that led to the discovery our province’s founding date.

Salamat ng marami, Gov. Spines!
