What’s really your problem about overseas Filipinos? How dare you say that overseas Filipinos are like the collaborators of Japanese imperialists? You should at least show some respect to the brave and heroic overseas Filipinos who fought and bravely defended our beloved country against Japanese imperialists.
For your information, no matter how many thousand miles away or how many years away from home, patriotism of most Filipinos and love of their beloved country Philippines will never fade away. Solid and glaring evidence is the fact that great numbers of Filipino Americans quickly enlisted in the U.S. Army and volunteered to fight against the Japanese who invaded the country. The magnitude of volunteers resulted in the creation of two segregated units – the 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments and an all-Filipino military band. In fact, the most decorated U.S. Army units in the early days of the war were composed of Filipinos. And here you are trying to discredit overseas Filipinos.
Prince Henry Dumaran is right when he said, “How dare you be the Judge on who’s a proud Filipino or not. What qualifications do you possess to be in a position to question a person’s true intent and accuse one of abandoning the motherland? Who is a truer and prouder Filipino, one who had to leave the motherland to better himself/herself and end up helping his/her family and fellow countrymen or one who is based in the motherland and yet significantly contributes to the decadent state the motherland is in?”
I totally disagree with your notion that no native born American will swear to defend the constitution of the Philippines. In fact, there are many of them who had obviously done more than that. I dare you to put yourself in the shoes of those native born Americans who willingly risked or sacrificed their lives to fight and defend our beloved country against the Japanese imperialists. Why not go out and visit the fields of so many white crosses dotting the Philippine countryside and pay also some respect or tribute to the brave and heroic native born Americans who sacrificed so much for Filipinos like you and me? These are white crosses marking the burial sites of so many native born Americans who made supreme sacrifices with there precious lives so that we can live in peace and harmony.
You should remember these brave fallen heroes every time you start to question why overseas Filipino nurses, doctors, engineers and others will not dwell and stay in their home country to provide much needed service for their own countrymen instead. The brain drain is nothing compared to the supreme sacrifices made by these native born Americans who were buried in foreign soil far away from their home, is it not? Whether you like it or not, people are going global now. We are no longer mere citizens of a country or countries but citizens of this planet Earth.
“I cannot give up my citizenship in the Philippines. It is in my heart. But America is also in my mind. I wish to have both loyalties.” – Pfc. Jose Trinidad, 1st Filipino Infantry, U.S. Army
