Crack in De Venecia’s political armor
By Gonzalo Duque
SAN DIEGO, California–Filipinos in the US are disillusioned by former President Erap’s declaration of running for president.
They said what has he yet to prove?
Wala naman siyang plataporma, kundi Erap para sa mahirap. Kaya pag nanalo yan, but I really doubt, kasi “convict” e, at mukhang lasing lagi, wala namang magandang idea. He is the symbol of what is bad in the Filipino, yong mga nahuhumaling sa mga artista kahit walang laman ang utak kundi chikas, inuman, jueteng, naman, naman, Erap, ag mo pala ipapasoot so laman mo, nakakainsulto sa mga Pinoy many of who are like you crazy over their make-believe world.
Let’s hope that after our severe political mauling for many years, we can now finally rise by choosing leaders who have integrity, political will and vision and who will give us hope.
To our friends and readers in the Fourth District, we learned from political kibitzers here that our friend from way back, Antonio “Solo” de Venecia, Jr., is seriously considering to run for congressman in his uncle Joe’s district. That means he will fight Gina, wife of Joe de V, and in the process, help the enemy, Land Transportation Chief Art Lomibao win.
Ano ba ito, Manong Joe? I understand that even former Councilor Alex is extra-close to Art Lomibao. We sense that Solo’s plan to run against Gina is in support of Art.
Matagal ko nang sinanasabi yan, mga agagui, Art is a no push-over candidate. He knows strategy, timing, and consolidation of forces. Is he stingy with money as we often hear? Strategy lang yan. Art is worth a billion, if we know. He can afford to mount a high logistics campaign when the time comes but he is very calculating.

By the way, Noynoy Aquino and Mar Roxas, who are also runaway winners in pre-poll surveys in America, will be in Dagupan on November 4 at the installation of Bishop Socrates Villegas in lieu of Bishop Cruz who has retired.
We hope Bishop Villegas will be able to carry on what the good bishop who has been fighting jueteng has started. We wish him good luck in his new job in enlightening the people of Pangasinan especially in these environmentally disastrous and politically calamitous times.
Why politically calamitous? Well, ask Erap.
NOTES: We met Hermie Rivera lately, and we found him busy finishing a book about Manny Pacquiao. He promised to give us a copy as soon as it gets off the press. We’re sure bestseller yan ha, Hermie? Congrats?

We wish to thank once again our Pinoy hosts and hostesses during our stay in the US. Mac Macaraeg and lovely wife Arlene from Binalonan town.
They have a club, Friends of America of which we were asked to be their Philippine coordinator. Ok, thanks for the honor. Their recent project is to raise funds for typhoon victims and young scholars in Pangasinan.
We also felicitate Larry Casem who has been donating for the Mary Help of Christians; Cris and Herminia Meneses who want to send their help of Operation Tulong thru us, a private person, and not thru government officials for reasons of their own.
And here in San Diego, we had a grand time with old friends Stephen Beltran and lovely wife Zuen, Arni and Cathy Bernardo; and last but least, Ms Mita, Sammy and Nick Sta. Maria, all Dagupeño natives.
