Blockades to Noynoy’s presidential path
By Gonzalo Duque
NO DOUBT, most Filipinos still love the Aquinos — the political martyr former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and the restorer of democracy, former President Cory Aquino.
It’s true that the more you did into their lives, the more you get enamoured by them.
Comes now, Senator Benigno C. Aquino III, alias Noynoy, who, probably without his liking, has been thrust into political preeminence, being catapulted by circumstances — death of his mother Cory particularly —to the seat of power, Malacañang.
No question about that. That is, if getting elected to the presidency is based only the majority of the people’s vote of their free will. But, sadly, that is not the reality in our political system.
The naked fact is Philippine politics is not fair game at all. It is, you said it, the dirtiest game in town. And we all know it. And we continue tolerating if not encouraging it.
You say Cory beat FM fair and square. Well, that’s it, fair and square, but not quite, sinaol da pa?
But the machination was too obvious kasi one on one lang, kaya umalsa ang mga tao.
In the case of the proposed Noynoy versus any of the trapos with all their goons, guns and gold, patay na. That would cost billions pesos.
Did you know that one congressman in Pangasinan spent bout P500 million in order to own? Ok, now make your computation in terms of the presidential candidate who intends to win. Noynoy is not that rich, and knowing him, the character of the Aquinos, it looks unthinkable for Noynoy to win, what with all the hangers-on, the sipsips, the intrigueros, the bitin bitins, all that crap.
This is why we repeat what we wrote here recently. The Mar Roxas-Noynoy Aquino would be more workable. No, we are not saying Mar is trapo, corrupt, magnanakaw. No! Mar is one of the cleanest guys in Philippine politics. But Mar has factored in those things in his quest for the presidency. Naging sure winner or “most likely winners” silang dalawa.
Had Cory not died, Mar would be a hard sell for the presidency. You say Manny Villar is leading in the survey?
Sicayo met singa agyo amta ra tay sorbetes? The surveys are only a guide. They don’t tell everything. In fact we all know if a survey is honest or bought. So watch this development.
After Gloria, the most likely successor is Mar Roxas — or Noynoy, that is if the Filipino people will once again show that they won’t tolerate any shenanigans. Ours is only striking a balance between the people’s outpouring and organizational to reality. It’s a Mar-Noynoy team in 2010. Mark our word.

Yesterday, presidentiable Chiz Escudero was the guest of honor of our Rotary Club of Uptown Dagupan now headed by Councilor Dada Reyna. Congrats, Dada!
You know since its birth, the club — we were its first president for three terms — has scored a lot of awards and several successful community projects.
Let’s felicitate the club, especially those who have headed it including Razzle Coquia, Dr. Lucy Honrado, former Councilor Edna Gonzales, Marietta Sorio, IBP president Atos Bautista, Judge Emma Torio, Rebene Carrera, who else? RCUD Foundation chair is Perla Tañedo.
We have superstar members like General Pol Bataoil — altho Jun Velasco, who is president of Rotary Club of Metro Cubao insists that Pol is his member (paano yan?) like LTO Art Lomibao, Col. Noli Taliño, Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, Councilor Farah Decano, sorry, our memory seems to have dried up.
What matters is we have a great lively club! And congrats to Dada and her team! Cheers!
