Playing with Fire
Grandstanding
By Gonzalo Duque
IN the internet, you get all kinds of verbal abuse. Because ours is a democracy, the exercise seems healthy. But it goes out of hand at times. There are the frustrated writers who simply love to hit at their pet peeves in the internet. They are lucky because they are given the widest latitude of democratic space to libel and slander anyone they find convenient to hit.
Ang kawawa ay ang mama na walang kaalamalam sa pinagiisip ng mga inggitero. Hay, ganyan lang ang buhay, mga agagui, anosan ti pa labat iraya.

Our friend Land Transportation Office chief Art Lomibao is one self-effacing guy who is being maligned by these internet bashers. What many do not know is that Art has been in the public service for about three decades.
Di ang laki ng backpay niya? Milyones, mga agagui. He is a good man, and we think those who have been hitting him in the internet be cause of his beautiful house are not fair. The guy deserves a pat on the back for the many things he has done for the general public. And do they know his family? By gum, bilyonario so asawa to.

Our call on Guv’nor Spines to “get mad” at the apparent breakdown of peace and order in the province is shared by a big majority of our people. The news airlanes are full of denunciations against killings in Pangasinan, many of which are still unresolved.
But there’s a ray of hope at the end of the tunnel. We heard that Board Member Alfie Bince, a confidant of the governor, delivered a scathing attack at the Sangguniang Panlawigan at the seeming ineptness of the law enforcers to stop criminality.
We know that before Manong Alfie fired his guns ablazing, he must have received a go-signal from the guv’nor whose love for the province can’t be questioned. Ikaw naman, Provincial Director, Colonel Percy Barba sir, ano ba yan? We heard from our newsmen colleagues that you came out with impressive statistics about your claim that Pangasinan is very peaceful, but proofs of a blatantly contrary view are overwhelming. It’s about time really to clamp down on this deadly black eye on Governor Spines’ massive edifice of socio economic achievement. In performance, unbeatable pa yan.

Unlike certain presidentiables who would resort at anything to advance their personal agenda, Senator Manny Villar is doing it the correct way. He doesn’t bad mouth his way up. Most of these ambitious guys and gals who want to go up have the habit of nitpicking on GMA all the time.
In the case of Manny Villar, he just concentrates on the positive approach, endearing the public. No wonder, even those in the administration admire him. Yan ang pam-presidente, sabi nila. Some people commit the mistake of confusing bomba with virtue. No so. They love to grandstand, but the public are not biting.
Gayahin sana nila si Manny.

What? Victor Agbayani has declared he will fight Governor Spines? That’s not news. Expected. Anti climax. What’s news is when he, in deference to what he himself has seen that the present administration has done a lot, will say, “let Spines finish what he has started; I have been there for nine years anyway. I’ll just concentrate on legislation.” That is statesmanship. With his announcement of running, so what else is new. Pulitika man din. Aray, Pangasinan!
