Re: OPAL tapping river for potable water
Mabini in the first place is having a shortage of potable water supply and I think the Balincaguin River does not deserve to suffer the same fate as the Sabangan and Quibuar River.
Mabini is the lone municipality in western Pangasinan without a coast, the river being our heritage and lifeblood should not be drained or sold. They should first study the sustainability of the river before utilizing it to this project or else salt water intrusion will occur just like Alaminos did to their own aquifer as we all know Balincaguin River drains to the Agno Bay.
Furthermore, upstream of the river, the hills where the tributaries meanders and collects the water is bare and bald. We badly need to reforest our watershed.
Mabini is not a ‘milking cow’ and it’s even hard to believe that Mayor Nani Braganza, a native of our town would be the architect of turning our only body of water into a wasteland. It’s a shame.
