Baguio laps & time trials

The Baguio laps are always the critical stages of multi-stage cycling in the Philippines. If cyclists couldn’t finish top four consistently in these laps, then forget all his ambitions to become a multi-stage tour champion.
To remove the “corporation system” and to ensure the endurance of Pangasinan cyclists, more emphasis should be given in time-trialing and mountain climbing training. If I were a Pangasinan cyclist, I will make the habit of cycling up to Baguio at least three times a week with a heavy racer bike.
Also, race organizers must see to it that 70% of organized races in Pangasinan should be in the format of Individual Time Trial on a hilly course to supplement the absence of mountainous roads in the province.
Remember that most champions of multi-stage cycling in the Philippines or in the major European tours, are either excellent or very good “bundokeros” and “time-triallers”.
