34 LGUs are joining Festivals of the North

Thirty-four local government units (LGUs) have confirmed their participation in the Festivals of the North street dancing competition on April 27, one of the highlights of the Dagupan Bangus Festival 2009.

Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, chair of the Dagupan Bangus Festival, said among the participants are LGUs from Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Norte, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Isabela, Zambales and the Cordillera region.

The participating municipalities are Balungao, Bayambang, Binmaley, Calasiao, Infanta, Manaoag, Mapandan, Pozorrubio, Sta. Maria, San Nicolas, Santo Tomas, Umingan, Urbiztondo, Villasis and Malasiqui, Pangasinan; Agoo, Bauang, Naguilian and Sto. Tomas, La Union; Paoay, Pinili, Pagudpud and San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; Candaba and Mabalacat, Pampanga; Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, and Masinloc, Zambales.

The participating cities are Alaminos, San Carlos, Angeles, San Fernando, Laoag, Santiago and host Dagupan.

The famous Dinag-yang Festival street dancers, composed of 107 members, are also coming to perform as special guest performers.

The event also promises to be star-studded as celebrities from GMA-7, ABS-CBN and celebrity endorsers of the major sponsors will join the parade.

Cash prizes for the street dancing are P200,000 (1st prize); P100,000 (2nd prize); P75,000 (34d prize) P50,000 (4th prize), and P30,000 (5th prize).

P20,000 will be awarded to the winners of ‘best in costume’, ‘ best in choreography’ and ‘best choreographer’.

Street dancing in Dagupan City was pioneered by Fernandez when as a city councilor in 1997 she was appointed by Mayor Alipio Fernandez as chairman of Dagupan’s 50th anniversary celebration.-LM

Milo sports clinic

A two-day free clinic on disciplines of six major sports will be held at the CSI Stadia in Dagupan City on April 21 and 22 as part of the 16-day Dagupan Bangus Festival slated from April 15 to May 1.

Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, chair of the Dagupan Bangus Festival 2009, said Nestle Philippines will hold the first of the Milo Summer Sports Clinic Caravan in Dagupan.

The clinic for the six sports, basketball, badminton, taekwondo, table tennis, karatedo and chess, will be held in partnership with CSI the City Mall Dagupan, CSI Stadia, the Sangguniang Kabataan of Dagupan and the office of the vice mayor.

The sports caravan is in line with Milo’s commitment to “build champions in life”.

Fernandez said the sports clinic aims to help mold the children’s character and teach them life values such as discipline, respect, perseverance and teamwork.

There will be two age groups for the clinics: one for 11-18 years old and another for 6-10 years old.

Participants must bring a photocopy of his or her birth certificate, present a school identification card, and submit a 1 kilo or 600-gram pouch of Milo energy drink with an official receipt from any CSI branch indicating purchase from April 1-17 only.—LM
