Playing with Fire
Greed
By Gonzalo Duque
FIRST, we offer deep sympathy and condolences to the family of our friend, Ambie Valero, about a bit past 60, who died of colon cancer last week.
His remains will be interred at the Eternal Gardens shortly.
We were partly responsible for his appointment as director of the Don Mariano University in La Union while he waited for an appointment from President Pnoy, having been one of his hard presidential campaigners.
Bong Nanguiat, now Pagcor chairman, whom Pnoy trusted as his overall campaign chief for Northern Luzon, knew what Ambie did. But sad to say, Ambie was left out in the cold. Ambie was topman of the Aquino drive in La Union.
But we knew from family members that Ambie had a quiet talk with the Lord before he let go. Ambie, in your present abode, please say kumusta to St. Peter, ikaw na ang bahala sa amin pag dating ng panahon ha.
Being a good man, you will have his ears.
So long, pare.

Lyceum Northwestern U had an important guest last April 25, Rev. Archie Guiriba from the Roman Catholic Church.
He was Baccalaureate celebrator while Congressman Sonny Angara was guest of honor in the afternoon.
The Catholic priest’s message was very timely. It’s about wisdom. He said that a student has to have wisdom if he is to succeed in life. Wisdom will enable one to make correct decisions.
In the issues of life, it’s not the books that matter. But experience and better yet, the guidance of the Lord. How do we get that? Prayers and reading and understanding the Holy Bible,
We need more like Fr. Guiriba in church. You see, fellow Catholics, medyo natatalo tayo sa mga evangelists when it comes to understanding and articulating the Bible. Kasi, tayo “tayo at upo” and making the sign of the cross lang. No Bible study, this is the reason probably why many church members are moving over to other congregations, because they thirst for the word of God. If we don’t watch out, our church is like standing on soft sand. Time to wake up, brethren and sisters.
May Fr. Guiriba’s flock increase.

We thank Congressman Sonny Angara, son-heir apparent of Senator Ed Angara, for his presence and great speech before LNU graduates at the school’s 4lst graduation rites. You know, Sonny’s erpat has done a lot for education.
Congressman Sonny is open to suggestions. At the press conference, he was asked about the well-known role of the Iglesia ni Cristo during the elections considering that he might run under President Aquino.
“Well, it’s a reality we have to take. I can only hope and pray,” he intimated.
Instead of just kneeling before the powerful religious congregation, he said “we’ll pray and hope for the best.”
Well, that’s politics in RP. It’s like Dura Lex Sed Lex. Or que sera sera. But we ‘re sure the INC will include him in the list kasi mahusay at mabait.
Maki laro, politics is addition

Hold your breath. We lately bumped into Mayor Benjie Lim and what? He was seated with pro Mc Adore sale councilors Chito Samson, Djes Canto, Dada Reyna, Karlos Reyna, who else?
Though we are notorious for being abrasive in speaking, we treated him with respect. “Benjie, doon kami sa isang lamesa so we won’t disturb your meeting..” .
You know his reply? “Bakit, sino ka ba?”
Foul! Our son Nanoy chuckled when he saw the brusque act. We said it’s his sense of humor. But Nanoy couldn’t take it. He found Benjie’s act ugly, unschooled, and conduct unbecoming.
We’ve known Benjie for a long time. Parang bastos kung umasta minsan. Maybe it’s his way with humoring friends. That’s why it was alright with us. Anything is ok with us.
We learned later that his session with the councilors was to find out how to convince the other councilors in order to pass the proposed sale of Mc Adore. Malaki raw lobby money. Our publisher Ermin has the facts. Pinaguusapan na ng mga kabaleyan ya mga agagui.
One of these days, someone with balls will stand up and sue the Sanggunian for this below the belt action against the public interest. They did it when nobody was looking. Hmm…Ilalako da lay akamulagast ya baley.
Wadtan ni Vice Mayor Belen ya manpeyeng. Medyo onkakapoy ka amo amiga?
In fairness, VM Belen was in the US when the sale of McAdore was discussed… and approved? Kason baleg ya! What do you call politicians masquerading as public servants who behave like that? The word starts with letter “M.” Akaoley ki palan mangisulat, ta makakautaak no isulat ko.
You know son. Nanoy, ” there is enough for everybody’s need, but not enough for everybody’s greed.”
And God said, “what would profit a man who gains the whole world but in the end loses his soul?”.
Stay well and good son. God is on your side. Just don’t follow their style.
