A Kabaleyan’s Thoughts…

Divine GPS

By S. Bill Jimenez

TRAVELING by car from New Mexico to San Francisco, we were advised to use the portable GPS Navigation System.  My wife and I flew to Albuquerque to help our daughter pack and ship her stuff as she moved to a new assignment.

Coming back, we drove by some 1,400 miles making overnight stopovers in Sedona, Kingman and Las Vegas while visiting Sky City, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and other scenic spots.

Even with maps and our GPS, we relied more on another GPS (God’s Providential Spirit).  While my daughter was driving, I kept on praying for the Lord to guide and direct us.  Thank God, after four days, we arrived home safe and sound, although exhausted due to the summer heat and lack of sleep.

In our life’s journey, we should rely more on God’s guidance and direction as the Israelites did.  “By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day and night” (Exodus 13:21).  How do we avail of God’s direction? “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
