Sport season

By Gonzalo Duque

IT’S sports season.

With the advent of summer, the Pangasinan Press Club has found a reason for fun. No, not summer love, talagan sika Manny Baby, aliway walad ulom, no, not summer love, mind you, guys and gals. Kulang pa ng l5 days yong “panggita” as per prescription of the lady faith healer to us for 36 days! Saklap, awa Macky?

No, we started yesterday our 3-day sportsfest with Director Andy Estrada as chairman. In case you don’t know, we in the press circle have great sportsmen members. Of course, you know biking Jess Garcia, former Tour of Luzon champ. He, too, is a pingpong enthusiast. We saw him once playing the sport at Jun Velasco’s garden. Who’s the other guy we saw playing pingpong there? Was it Harold Barcelona?

You guessed right, Phil Celi, our deputy executive director. We are into this sportsfest to promote closer camaraderie. We know some of you guys are nursing gripes with one another. Bury the hatchet. Let’s party, rather, let’s play.

Andy Estrada says it was more than nine years ago that the club had a sportsfest. Kaya pala dukong dulong tila. Com’ on let’s flex our muscles. Let’s run, jog, box, strike, kick and wallop.

Games at stake are pingpong, basketball, badminton, fun run, duckpin, bowling, what else?

We wish to thank the guys led by exec director Ging Cardinoza, Orly Navarro, Jess Garcia, and everybody. We really deserve to get lost in fitness activities and sport. As the adage says, “all work and no play make Ruel a dull boy.” Not only that. Some people say the coco virgin oil enhances one’s sex.  We say, it’s sports and fitness. Ask Manny Pacquiao and Jess Garcia.

You, dear members, who want to play, please get in touch with Andy Estrada.

Allow us to thank our sponsors. Without them, baka iiyak si Ashok Vassandani.

Hey, look at this!

Mayor Benjie Lim and Punch boss Ermin Garcia in the same table! Hmm, sabi ko na e, you know, if you are a Dagupeno, you always get to be ok. How did this happen?

Read on. On February 25, the two, along with Macky Samson, and this writer were guests of Bok Crisologo on his 63rd birthday. We have a picture of the duo, Benjie and Ermin.

We’ll have it published in this paper next week. Ok ba, boss Ermin? Boss natin yan e. Sige na naman o, so that we can show to the world again that we here in Dagupan are game, sport, and fair and square.

Someone said “itong is Gonzalo mahilig mang intrig, kiliti en to kad column to, tapos pansamanoen to kayo may kalaban, tapos imis imis. It’s not easy, mind you. But Gons has a way with it.”

Precisely. Why take life so seriously. Otherwise you get serious and you become a serious case. Two people we want to break bread together are Mayor Lim and Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.  Watch for it. Niyay Macky, singa ag manisia.

Nengnengen. Abangan ang susunod na kabanata!
