Licauco wows Pangasinenses

By Gonzalo Duque

IT was a moment to remember, Prof. Jaime Licauco’s two-day engagement with Pangasinenses.

He first addressed the Pangasinan Rotarians at the Stadia led by main host Rotary Club of Uptown headed by Edwin Cancino. But credit all the Rotary clubs hereabouts including those in Lingayen, Urdaneta, Mangaldan and Calasiao. They all came and were very much impressed.

Jimmy later told us and Jun Velasco who missed the Rotarians’ date that the paranormal speaker too had a very good impression of his intelligent audience.  Three Rotarians – Nelson Yuchongtian, Arabel Arcinue and Cathy Velasco — asked him earth-moving questions, which had to do with God, people from other planets and more.  Jimmy acquitted himself very impressively.  He was in his chaleko get up and accompanied by beauteous wife Yolly and assistant Stephanie.

The following day, he was guest speaker of the Pangasinan Press Club’s Wednesday forum at Pedritos. The same mutual admiration took place.

“Your members including the junior club officers asked probing questions,” he told us.

Jimmy was introduced to us by Jun who earlier intimated to us that our column article here two years about the Mayan prophecy which we lifted from Jimmy’s Inner mind column in the Inquirer could be elaborated to us in person by no less than the writer.

And so, the Licauco engagement. For a while, it was as if the whole universe was our fingertips. Jimmy was so authoritative being a voracious reader, a super intelligent author of many best selling books, a great traveler and profound writer who has interviewed world famous personalities who have shown powerful influences globally.

“Do you believe in amulets? Do you believe in reincarnation? Do you believe in God?” were among the questions asked by the journalists. And his answers were forthright as well as reflective of his inner mind.

He clarified that he never wrote about the yearn that the world will end on December 2l, 20l2, this year. He said, concurring with the Mayan prophecy, that the earth would then be completing its full cycle on that date, and that as earlier written here, the planets are now in a new behavior causing many unusual occurrences in the weather, such as floods, tsunamis, earthquakes and the like.

He said Pangasinan is a gifted province, teeming with surprises, where you find people who can communicate with heavenly beings. He confirmed that tales about the faith healers here the likes of Jun Labo and Alex Orbito are true. No, he said, no doctrinal religion is involved, but most of the healers he knew like Ester Bravo are God or Christ faithful. Most if not all of them believe they owed their gift of healing to Jesus Christ.

He said any person who knows how to control his mind and enable it to tap the power within can bring about healing or cure of any ailment.

This was the reason right after his talk with the journalists, a plan to stage a seminar in Dagupan on the topic of mind and sickness is being hatched. So, it would be Licauco lecture part 2.

Abangan, mga igan!

We were intending to put kaput on our pet peeve subject Dr. Voltaire Arzadon, but here’s a canard who said that he had returned the P20 million check issued by our brod Cesar.

We should have dismissed this irritating matter, but the carrier or carriers of the message or report are credible and have high positions in the community.

It runs like this: Past Rotary Club of Dagupan president F. S. quoted another past president of the same club D.H. about this information.

We pray Ermin wouldn’t begrudge us writing on this again because we have considered the public interest while tackling it.  The moral is, if he could do it to his friend, Cesar, then he could do it to just anybody. The public safety is in peril.

By the way, Mr. Licauco talked about Karma in the media meeting. We wished Voltaire was around to at the time.

Did you say the Dagupan City government has P24 million for solving our waste problem?

If so, here’s Councilor Jig Seen super idea: Turn over your plastics waste to the Philippine Plastics Ass’n., which is buying the material at 1 kilo of plastics to 1 kilo of rice.

Wow! If this is true, we hit two birds with one shot – hunger and our garbage problem.

Pls. pin a medal on Jigs for the idea. Mabuhay ka, Jigs!
