What are the parents doing?

There’s something ominously wrong when school policies are adopted because of distractions that cell phones create in a classroom but not the carrying of cigarettes or weapons to begin with. The security guards can now search students’ bags for cell phones, whereas before they didn’t search bags for weapons or illegal drugs?

Do they also search their pockets, their binders, their books, their pen cases, their eyeglass cases, their calculator cases, their MP3 cases, inside their socks, or maybe under their armpits?

Since when did the job of policing our own children turn over to security guards and teachers? Have the parents thought about confiscating the cell phones during school hours, or better yet, do school age children really need cell phones?
