More of the same?

By Gonzalo Duque

OVER at city hall in Dagupan, we continue to hear of the same whining and grumbling among employees and Dagupeños for their perception of our city officials kuno.

We have been receiving feedback about certain councilors’ importunities which become more pronounced and more pressurized whenever Mayor Belen Fernandez will submit her version of the Community Development Fund. The trick is that this pernicious group uses greater pressure as time goes by.

Mayor Belen, we are warning you not to give in to their shenanigan!

Don’t think that we are merely making “suntok sa buwan” overtures. There are many CCTVs confidentially installed at the inner sanctum of the city hall. Hindi ba, Ding Micua?

One of the most despicable and, in fact, most embarrassing crimes ever committed during the nobly-inspired Duterte Administration was the kidnapping and subsequent killing of a Korean businessman committed by police officers at Camp Crame. Hindi lang nakakahiya. Nakakapanlumo pa! Even while the victim was already killed, these police animals were able to fleece the wife of the Korean national some P5 million.

Somebody correctly suggested that these police thugs should be shot at the back of the Rizal monument at Luneta as form of condemnation and denunciation of what they had done to a fellow human being. Why at the back and not in front or side of the Rizal monument, and probably facing the controversial condominium? The reason is obvious. They do not deserve to remain alive in our humane society.

Something very refreshing and unforgettable happened during the wedding of our son, Gonzalito, and Kristel Ann at San Jose Church in Mandaluyong. President Digong, who was one of the ninongs, called for us to inform that he wanted to offer brod, former CSC chairman and DOH Secretary Pingkoy, the position of Chairman of GSIS. The President in a very humble and touching way said to Pingkoy, “We need men like you in the government.” Pingkoy was dumbfounded and found the President’s offer irresistible.

The offer to Pingkoy reminded this writer when the President offered a high OFW slot. We could not accept it because, as you know, we are not growing young and could hardly handle a tough job.

At this juncture, we did not realize that we still have many friends and fans who haven’t stopped greeting us on our 65th birthday last January 15. Hindi lang mga lalaki at babae ang bumabati sa akin. Because even those in between – almost male, and almost female – are our well-wishers.

Incidentally, Ermin Garcia’s teasing our being macho-nurin should remind all of us, seniors, that our masculinity will only be sustained by our correct attitude. That’s why we are accepting Ermin’s challenge, although grudgingly.
