Agenda for Dagupan’s new police chief

Gonz Duque

By Gonzalo Duque

FIFTY days of President Digong in Malacanang could be likened to an entire term of a Philippine president’s 6-year accomplishment in the fight against crime.

No, we are not exaggerating, not at all.

Directly and indirectly, our new president has broken the back of criminality in only two to three weeks in the saddle.

So, that should confirm the confident assessment of our local police officers the likes of Sr. Supt. Ronald Lee, provincial director, and P/Supt. Neil Miro, Dagupan’s police chief, that the president would be able to fulfill his goal of solving the illegal drug menace within six months.

One other angle where he has scored most significantly is in the Filipino overseas workers.

Baka hindi niyo pa alam?

In one fell swoop, the dizzying rounds a poor man had to go through while applying for overseas job is now a thing of the past.

It’s now a one-stop shop so that all the cumbersome queues, follows-up, akar diya, akar diman would only be done now in one sitting or standing – yes, the securing of NBI, police, barangay clearances, PhilHealth, SSS, GSIS, etc…

Agay met la, our poor Pinoy and Pinay have been suffering for centuries all due to wrong concepts, strategies, etcetera.

Godsend talaga itong si Pangulong Digong, di po ba?

Thank God, siya ang nanalo noong May 9…or else, papaano na kaya tayo?

Back home, we congratulate P/Supt. Neil Miro for his assignment as new Dagupan police chief.

Neil is our provincemate from Mangatarem, Pangasinan.

Humble, intelligent marami na rin siyang experience sa police work.

We’d like to inform him that our fellow Dagupenos are jubilant with his new assignment.

Hindi lang marunong si Colonel Neil, humble, perceptive, warm, friendly at magaling pa.

We’re told he at once took the first steps of carrying out the President’s anti-drug program with presence of mind, impeccability and utmost professionalism. For our part as grateful Dagupenos, we should help him to the best of what we can do.

We have a humble suggestion: if it is ok with Neil, why not follow what transpired in the town of Asingan, where the whole police force was recently sanitized?

We have nothing personal about this, but we have been having a lot of negative impressions about the local police especially in the drug campaign. Huwag hayan nang  dumating ang puntong ma-Leila De Lima pa ang sitwasyon to prevent embarrassment.

We want Neil to succeed, hence, this simple idea.

Congrats, Ms. Perla Tanedo for your ascent in the presidency of the Rotary club of Uptown Dagupan.

Our hibernating friend Boy Rayos used to joke that our Uptown is a club of many adas – (our beerkadas are familiar with this lingo).

Perla is an angel, a pearl (like the precious stone we extract from an oyster shell) and a confidante.

Our dream of the club we had the distinct privilege of chartering is for it to Rotarize the community it serves – that is, to internalize the Rotary Creed in every member and in every Dagupena and Dagupeno.

Uptown started as an all-woman club, chartered in 2000 during the United Nations’ declaration of that historic day of March 8, 2000 as International Day for Women.

Our hearty advice to President Perla: just do it, and do it well!

We shall do the rest, God permitting.

Our young Governor Pogi Espino might consider a judge’s advice in dealing with drug clients.

How? Separate the young from the old criminals. For the old will surely infect the young with their callous ways.

With this in mind, we suggest to our governor to focus on the revival of the idle rehab center we helped build in Burgos town, with the young trained thereat, to be taught special skills and the ramifications of education.

How about it, Guv’ Pogi, DILG and DSWD people?

How did the Asingan experience hit you?

Someone has been pestering us about it no end?

With President Digong’s fast action on all fronts, we believe matatahimik na ang lugar na yan! (Cross your fingers!).

Baley nimet ni Pangulong Eddie!

Mahiya naman kayo.
