GMA looks, is fine!

Gonz-Duque1

By Gonzalo Duque

MARK this date, Oct.6.

It was a heartwarming reunion between former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and this writer at the Philippine Veterans Hospital.

We were a group – all supporters of Mayor Rody Duterte – when an idea leaped to our faces: pay a visit to our old friend, former President Gloria.

She remembered us vividly, calling us “Gonz!”  When she broke into a smile, everyone thought she’s back in full health, parang dati, ebullient, winsome, pretty, kaya nga diyan tumaob si Mike Arroyo e.

Foremost of our reasons for visiting her was the inspiring news about the United Nations that deplored PGMA’s continued detention as “arbitrary” and a violation of international law.

The good news was released to us, Filipinos, by international lawyer Amal Alamuddin-Clooney, wife of Hollywood actor George Clooney.

While exchanging pleasantries with Gloria who revealed a decision to run for re-election as a Pampanga congresswoman, we remembered a remark from Nobel Prize awardee Nelson Mandela, thus:

“For people in politics, prison life is meant to break one’s spirit. But it is an opportunity to get close to God.”  Words to that effect.

Well, we’ve not experienced such, kaya naiinggit tayo kina Jun Velasco at Nestor Pulido, who were detainees under Proclamation 1081.

Forcing us into a philosophical mood, we reflected on why the P-noy government would allow Senator Johnny Enrile to be out on bail, but not her even if the charges against her have not been proven.

It really stabs our heart. Gloria is not even allowed to use a cellphone, or a computer, TV.

Bet that?  Grabe met awa?

A former president being subjected to such indignities, harassment, cruelty?  Ang mga modern Neros na ito, they have a lot of explaining to do before the Lord, who is the Alpha and Omega of everything.

We’re still in the dark why some people can bear to inflict harm of that severity, of inhumanity!!!

GMA’s family and ours are close. That’s why we did not know what to feel when confronted with this severe cruelty to a dear friend!

Let’s thank the Lord tho for giving us a celebrity lawyer Amal Clooney. Let’s pray that our cruel countrymen be enlightened by the Holy Spirit!

How about our other friend Rody Duterte?

While writing this, we came across a PDI news item with this head, “I’ll support Marcos-Duterte.”

Last week, our friend said he was for Alan Peter Cayetano.

Know what? Whenever we’d ask him about these things, he’d say, the problem is we’re avoiding presidential politics, but it keeps following us. Teach me what to say.”

Our take on his decision will be in 5 to 6 days. That will clear the air finally.

A respected writer intimated to us a note – “please ask all candidates for president down to the last barangay kagawad to submit to a drug test.  Baka may mga adik sa kanila?”

Our reply: “not only adik, baka may mga pusher.”

Great suggestion!  How about that, Daang Matuwid?

We received another text message: Why is Miriam Santiago at it again? Di ba may sakit siya?

At saka itong Roy Seneres, presidential candidate daw?

Well, ours is a demo-crazy, so don’t be surprised! Atty. Meimban says “demon-crazy!”

Grabe naman….
