‘Mar Roxas is only worthy opponent’—BBM

A CASUAL talk with a stalwart of BBM otherwise known as Buong Bayan Magkaisa for Bongbong Marcos Movement revealed that the group is seriously, if not fiercely, at work to field Bung Ferdinand’s Junior in the 2016 presidential elections.

This stalwart who is eyeing a senate seat says his group is “not eyeing Vice President Jojo Binay as potential rival but Secretary Mar Roxas!”

The corruption charges against Binay, he says, will erode his chances for the presidency.

How about the other wannabes? He quipped, “It’s only Roxas that our group is seriously taking in the equation.”

By Friday—our press time—the city of Dagupan was filled with Mar Roxas tarpaulins.

He was scheduled to meet with sectoral leaders invited by Rep. Gina de Venecia and Mayor Belen Fernandez.

The city as well as the province as a whole gave Roxas a substantial edge over Binay in the last vice presidential contest.

We believe he will get more votes this time, with his public service record still unblemished.

Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Police Director Isagani Neris is scheduled to meet the Muslim community here as his gesture to help in the anti-drugs campaign. Pangasinan LGUs—from Gov. Spines to the mayors—should cash in on Neris’ visit. It was he who formed the Pangasinan Muslims Assembly, and his word, according to the Muslims hereabouts, is almost “sacred.”

We suggest Neris’ successor, Colonel Rey Biay, take some vital points from Gani, in the area of mobilizing the local Muslims for peace and meaningful livelihood.

It was most educational and informative to listen to the speakers doing the First Baybayin Summit at the Sison Auditorium led by National Artist Virgilio Almario, who said that the beginning of the un-golden age of the Philippines began with its subjugation on March 1521, with Magellan’s invasion.

Almario said the fabled isles should have progressed uninterruptedly with our own unique native culture.

The seminar’s keynote speaker was Cong. Leopoldo Bataoil. More on this in future columns.

We condole with the family of an old friend, Miguel “Mike” who succumbed to cardiac arrest last week. The father of Bar Topnotcher Atty. Janet Abuel, now a DBM undersecretary in Malacañang, Mike had legions of friends in the province among the most prominent is Uncle Erning Martinez.

May he rest in peace.

We fete Fr. Jerry Orbos for being selected as one of the province’s ASNA Awardees. We were one of those who nominated his inclusion on the ASNA, along with Philippine Star Editor in Chief Ana Marie Pamintuan.

Younger brother of former Gov. Oca Orbos, Fr. Jerry is one of the most likeable stewards of the Catholic Church in the country.

One time he guested in our subdivision—Tondaligan Blue Beach Subdivision, —Fr. Jerry attracted so many common folk to his preaching while they were merely passing by. He is that popular.
