Ming Rosario miraculously survives attack

“Love all. Trust a few. Do wrong to no one.” — William Shakespeare

OUR supposedly peaceful province was lately rocked by the shocking attempt on the life of a most gentle person, former Board Member Jeremy “Ming” Rosario, assistant provincial health officer, who was shot by an unknown killer or killers last Wednesday.

In spite of the rigorous program of our local police, we still have a jungle-like society where one could feel the cold point of a gun on his head.

The Rosario incident reflects the fragility of life against a determined killer even amid a methodical or near-perfect public protection program by the police. Some crime will always be committed!

We texted our Cumpadre Ming to the effect that “God’s protective shield, your presence of mind, and our prayers saved you.”

Dr. Jerry Rosario, younger brother, says well-loved brother was rushing home to preside over a meeting of Los Caballeros at his Manaoag residence when he was attacked.

His late erpat, our cumpadre, a fellow Punchman former Gov. Ager Rosario was president of Los Caballeros when he invited us as the club’s guest speaker in 1968.

The Governor’s press office identified a riding-in-tandem that swerved past Ming’s vehicle and shot him twice. The first bullet shattered the window of his vehicle while the second hit his left shoulder and exited to his back.”

Governor Amado Espino, who loves Ming like his own son, directed Provincial Police Director Col. Rey Biay to get the culprits fast and jail them.

It is with grave concern that near-fatal incident could happen to a plain, good man whose dedication for public service is outstanding. It could send shivers to dedicated public servants whose unswerving mantra for is well known. Aside from satisfying the psychotics’ twisted conscience, the bestial act is a deterrent to good deeds.

We urge Mayor Belen T. Fernandez to take another hard look at the city’s fishpen-infested rivers. It’s been reported that a   new “assault” on the river system has been exposed by veteran bangus developer Alfredo Dawana and Boy Estrada over a radio talk show at Orly Navarro’s DWIZ program.

The new assault is worse than the still prevalent fishpens (“pls. invite publisher Ermin to join a tour of Dagupan’s rivers!” – Dawana), the founder of the fishpond owners here said.

Btw, Foofadci’s baby, Phil. Ass’n of Fish Producers, Inc. headed by Ed Maramba, a national ass’n, is holding National Fish Congress hereabouts on April 27-29.

Alfred identified the enemy of our marine life as the mushrooming fish cages which instead of achieving its purpose is responsible for polluting the river with poisonous fish fee left-over.

Dawana says the fish cage should be used for high-value fish (malaga, lapu-lapu, sibas, et.al; NEVER for fish-feed-consuming bangus.

Makes one wonder why Ms. Emma Molina, City Agriculture head, is over liberal with operators of fish cages that are wrongly used for bangus instead of the high-value fish. Since they are used in shallow rivers, they create poison for the fish.

“These fish cages should not be used in our rivers but in the far and deep sections of the sea or ocean,” Dawana stressed.

“Millions of pesos worth of marine life are lost to corrupt hands because no one is minding the store,” Dawana said.

Mayor Belen, herself a fishpond owner and marine life protector, should do more than take self-serving reports from her “river guardians” (Bantay Ilog kuno).

Over in Mangaldan, we attended a recent meeting of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption for the Upliftment and Uprightness of Mangaldan (VACUUM) with Police Chief Col. Jacky Candelario as guest speaker.

Former mayor Tito Sarzaba, group adviser, spiced up the meeting with helpful tips on effective police work, a subject of which he is an expert.

All the LGU’s of the province should emulate the Mangaldan project, the media who attended the forum told VACUUM president Dr. Jose Soriano, formerly with the Regional Health Office in San Fernando City.

The town has a reputation of producing “the best pindang in the country.”

It also boasts of the best public high school nationwide.

NOTES: Those who deplore former Rep. Mark Cojuangco because of his pro-nuclear power stance do not know that 95 percent of countries all over the world use nuclear as their chief source of cheap energy…

Guv’nor Spines was naturally bruised by Ming Rosario’s attack because Ming is a trusted and outstanding worker.

The Callejos — contractor Rogelio Jr., and beauteous Acela — of Brgy. Mauled in Dagupan are proud of son Harry who finished high school at the St. Albert the Great High School as valedictorian. In their four years in high school, Harry loved to tutor his classmates not only because he cares for them but because he learns more from what he tutors them with.

The Callejos’ neighbor, Ms. Sofia Beltran-del Rosario, is being feted for her role as perfect host.
