Swimming lessons

SOME people laugh at the people of India because of their habit of going to the movies if they are hungry.
Yeah, to escape hunger, they watch a movie.
When we heard this, we thought Filipinos beat the Indians with their own unusual habit. Aside from watching the movies, they go to politics.
Kaya pala marami tayong political artistas and zarzuelistas.
Are you still surprised if we are still poor up to now?

There’s one sport that our Lyceum Northwestern University is very good and committed at, swimming.
Swimming is being taught in the elementary, high school and college at LNU.
It’s their P.E.
Know what? Mayor Belen Fernandez finds the sport most relevant these days. Tama lang. You can’t tell if there’s going to be a disaster like what happened to Tacloban when Typhoon Yolanda struck.
City Hall has a swimming program. It is now training some. 5000 would-be swimmers at the public pool with trainer Bert Lozada overseeing it.
We believe LNU is the first ever college to offer swimming as a P.E. All LNU graduates know how to swim.
Of course. It’s a very timely and relevant sport. You know, in times of disaster you don’t use your dancing or bowling or basketball skills. Swimming, yes.
Sports and athletic buffs believe that swimming is the best sport. Lahat ng parte ng katawan ay na e-exercised!
We’re calling on the other schools to offer swimming lessons.
As we hinted, we can’t tell the occurrence of disaster. Sabi ng sawikain, “Daig ng maagap ang isang masipag” or in English, “the cautious beats the industrious” (in the game of life).
Incidentally, LNU’s leadership in sport is proven by its promotion of other ball jousts—basketball, volleyball, touch ball and football. Oh, yes, LNU has provisions for these sport games because of its wide campus.
Our foreign students are impressed with our junior football field and an aircon gym. They love to train in football games.
Our football manager is a Nigerian—Obina Winners, a national player in Nigeria.
Visit LNU and be amazed at our sport facilities.

Aside from our student foreigners, many individuals and groups find LNU as a convention or meeting center. Our Le Duc Hotel has such facility.
Butch Velasco, provincial info officer, is impressed with our facilities, being “ideal for holding DepEd conventions and outcome-based curriculum seminars.
The coffee shop, says local guru Marlene Gutierrez of the old Café du Marc, will open on December 17. But it will have a dry run on Dec. 2. Marlene has assured Le Duc manager General Araullo that their research on food will cough up 76 kinds of dishes which can’t be found in ordinary restaurants.
The resto is called Florence Bistro.

Mapalad at tuwang-tuwa ang ciudad ng Dagupan for being the recipient of Sec. Bebot Villar’s panangaro.
Kala natin malaki na ang ibinigay ni Manong na P10-million for the completion of the Region 1 Medical Center’s drug rehab facility in Bonuan Binloc. Dinig natin magbibigay uli ng P5-million for a drug-testing center.
Paborito ni Sec. Villar ang ciudad na tulungan kasi kitang-kita niya ang focused at seryosong trabajo at concern ni Mayora in fighting the drug menace. Nandiyan na rin ang pagsaludo niya kay Sr. Supt. Chris Abrahano.

We thank Board Member Amado Espino III alyas Pogi for accepting our invitation to guest at Deretsahan scheduled yesterday.
He is being eyed by visionary Lita Soriano to head the proposed Pangasinan Thanksgiving, Renewal Fasting and Prayer Day Celebration on a date to be fixed yet in consultation with Gov. Amado “Spines” Espino Jr.
Marami tayong dapat ipagdasal ng pasasalamat kay Lord Jesus for protecting the province from many disasters.
This is timely in light of the Ebola virus and disaster threats.
