THE driver of a grader machine died when the riprap of the construction of Urdaneta Bypass Road in Barangay Anonas collapsed that caused the grader to turn upside down and pinned the victim in it.

P? Chief Inspector Mike Datuin of the investigation section of the Urdaneta City Police Station said the victim, Nelson Vallejo, resident of Barangay Lelemaan, Manaoag was driving the grader at 11:30 a.m. of January 9 to fix the edge of the bypass road when the riprap suddenly collapsed and caused the grader to fall.

It took two hours for the combined efforts of the Urdaneta’s City Disaster Risk Management Center, the police and co-workers of the victim, to pull out Vallejo from under the grader.

He was rushed to Urdaneta District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending doctor.

Investigation is going on to determine the liability of the contractor of the project. (Nora Dominguez)
