Dagupan kagawad jailed for 13 counts of estafa

A BARANGAY councilman in Dagupan City, wanted for 13 counts of estafa, was arrested by the police in his house before midnight on Thursday, the Dagupan City Police reported.

The suspect identified as Jesus Casilang, 32, incumbent barangay councilman of Bacayao Norte in Dagupan City.

The police said Casilang is facing 13 counts of estafa in various courts of Dagupan, eight in the sala of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Genoveva Maramba of Branch 40, four in the sala of RTC Judge Mervin Samadan of Branch 40 and one in the sala of Municipal Trial Court Judge Zarah J. Fernandez of Branch 2.

Judge Maramba set the bail for the accused in all the eight counts of estafa filed against him in her sala at P270,000.

Judge Samadan fixed the bail bond of Casilang for the four counts of estafa filed against him at P19,800.

On the other hand, Judge Fernandez set the bail for one count of estafa at P6,000.

The cases were committed in Dagupan City on different dates from August 1 to 31.

The warrants of arrest of the accused were served by a police team led by Chief Inspector Marcos Anod, deputy chief of police of Dagupan, desk officer of the police at the time.

The arrested suspect was first brought to the Region I Medical Center for medico-legal examination before he was lodged at the PNP jail pending his commitment to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Dagupan. (Leonardo Micua)
