Mayor reminds police: Arrest, not kill drug suspects

THE Urdaneta City Police Station should conduct operations against drug personalities with the intention of arresting them so they could be presented to the court.

This is the reminder of Urdaneta City Mayor Amadeo ‘Bobom’ Perez to the city police amid the controversy over the killing of Kian de los Santos being a drug suspect.

Perez said it is the duty of every policeman to protect lives even as they arrest suspects.

He cited the case of Barangay San Vicente that was once a hotspot for illegal drugs, but that has changed hence because of the support of the community especially barangay officials to eradicate the drug menace.

He said no mayor alone can stop the illegal drug trade without the help of the community, police and barangay officials.

H warned that if communities are not vigilant, watching out for drug suspects operating in their barangays, the problem will always recur.

Perez said. (Nora Dominguez)
