DONATE! If you cannot, stop barking!

This was the dare of Dagupan City Councilor Jeslito Seen to Councilor Redford Erfe-Mejia who continuously criticized the conditional donation of a 1.2-hectare land to the city by his brother-in-law, businessman Kerwin Fernandez.

Seen said it is ironic that those who cannot make a donation are the ones whining and worse, they make it appear that the donation is illegal and therefore, the  city should reject the donation.

The councilor said he rose to deliver the privilege speech to stress that the donation is not an illegal act but an act of benevolence contrary to what Erfe-Mejia wanted to make it appear.

Erfe-Mejia objected to the donation because he surmised that once the government center is built on the donated lot along the Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension,  the expected rise in value of all properties in the area will beenfit landowners, and among the first to benefit is Fernandez.

In defending the donation, Seen likened the  benevolence of the brother of Mayor Belen Fernandez to similar acts of genreosity shown by other citizens of Dagupan who donated their properties to the city in support of the needs of the local government and its people.

“The creation of Dagupan as a vibrant and prosperous city was made out of land donations from benevolent families in Dagupan,” said Seen, recalling many parcels of land that were donated to the city that served many useful purposes.

He said the scions of the De Venecias, Fernandezes, Reynas, Decanos, Oviedos, Llamases, Calimlims, Samsons donated their parcels of lands, responding to the needs of the city and its people.

The location of the Region 1 Medical Center, formerly the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital, was through the benevolence of the family of then Pangasinan Governor Teofilo Sison.

Seen reminded the critics that the reason Dagupan has a plaza, market, roads, schools and most especially the city hall, was because of the many kind-hearted Dagupenos who cared for their city . (Leonardo Micua)
