URBIZTONDO — Life for Ronnie Dayan, former bodyguard-driver and self-confessed bagman for Sen. Leila de Lima, remains difficult and as he fears for his life to this day.

P/Chief Inspector Joshua Maximo, Urbiztondo police chief, said Dayan, has not slept in his house in Barangay Galarin here but reportedly occasionally visits his orange bungalow house.

Dayan continues to stay in a designated safehouse provided by the police.

Maximo said Dayan would ask for police escort each time he goes out of town, particularly to consult with his lawyer, a former vice mayor of the town, about pending charges filed against him for his involvement in illegal drug trade.

Asked about Dayan’s condition, Maximo said “He is okay.”

He added that life in Barangay Galarin has returned to normal since newsmen stopped covering Dayan’s whereabouts and activities.

It will be recalled that the House of Representatives sought Dayan’s indictment for ignoring their summons on an inquiry on the illegal drug trade in the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

Dayan also failed to respond to the show cause order issued by Congress and opted to hide in La Union where he was eventually arrested.

At the Senate hearing on the illegal drug, drug lord Kerwin Espinosa admitted having paid millions to some police officials and to De Lima, then as Justice secretary, through Dayan.

Espinosa claimed to have given P8-million drug money to Dayan for De Lima’s campaign for a senatorial seat in the May 2016 elections.

Both Dayan and De Lima, as then justice secretary, admitted to their love affair. (Tita Roces)
