Alert cops foil RCBC Lingayen bank robbery

LINGAYEN—Alert policemen here foiled an attempted robbery by a 19 –year-old resident of Barangay Malimpuec this town, inside the RCBC Bank branch dawn Wednesday.

P/Supt. Jackson Seguin, town police chief, said the lone suspect, Wilkin Dave Austria, 19, was arrested around 3:30 a.m.

Investigation showed Austria initially entered Columban Plaza and destroyed the concrete wall behind RCBC Bank.

He succeeded in forcibly disabling the bank’s alarm control panel, switched off the bank’s circuit breaker and broke the glass cabinet of the closed circuit television camera. But he failed to open the bank’s cash vault.

On sensing the presence of policemen that responded to the alert sounded by the bank, he ran to hide at the Rams Fitness Gym, at the second floor of Columban Plaza where he was eventually found and arrested.

A body search by PO2 Eusebio Soriano of the Lingayen police, on Austria yielded two sachets of shabu.

Seguin said cases of robbery and possession of illegal drugs were to be filed through inquest proceedings at the prosecutor’s office against against the suspect. (Tita Roces/Leonardo Micua)
