INLIEU OF CAMP MALONG

THE provincial government is now eyeing an area inside the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) headquarters in Lingayen as a possible venue for boot camp for rehabilitation of slightly affected drug users who surrendered earlier to the police under Project: Double Barrel.

P/Supt. Jackie Candelario, police provincial director for operations, revealed this during the KBP Forum on Thursday.

He said this new alternative is being considered by the provincial government after its request to use an area inside the Camp Tito Abat in Manaoag was rejected by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Candelario said Gov. Amado Espino III and his father, Fifth District Rep. Amado Espino Jr., already broached the matter to PNP officials on the possibility of converting a part of the PPPO camp as boot camp for drug users who surrendered earlier.

In rejecting the Camp Abat proposal, the AFP instead offered the Camp Andres Malong Camp in Binmaley as an alternative site but Espino expressed reluctance to accept it because this camp has no perimeter fence to secure the area for rehabilitation purposes.

If PNP will agree, the PPPO will be the other rehabilitation facility aside from the two-hectare lot in Burgos town that the Espino administration expects to be donated to the province soon.

“The camp (PNP provincial headquarters) is an ideal location, since it is very accessible

and very conducive to a boot camp-type of activity Candelario told newsmen. “It is also secured 24/7”, he added. (Leonardo Micua)
