MALASIQUI–A barangay captain of the town, considered by the police as a high-value target for his drug activities, was arrested in a buy-bust operation on October 24 in Barangay Bolaoit.

Arrested in an operation conducted by operatives of Malasiqui Police Station, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (PAIDSOTG) and Regional Intelligence Unit 1, was one Boyet Geronimo, alias “Bagets”, the incumbent barangay chairman of Potiocan, Malasiqui.

He was arrested after he handed one heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing shabu to a police poseur-buyer.

Seized from his possession, control and custody were one P500 marked and a Kawasaki motorcycle without a plate number.

The suspect and the confiscated items were brought to PDEA office in Dagupan City for proper disposition while a case for violation of Sec. 5, Art II of RA 9165 is now being prepared against the suspect prior to its filing in court.

Geronimo was among those who surrendered to the local police under Oplan Double Barrel sometime in August this year not as a pusher but as user.

He was placed under surveillance when he did not cooperate with the police in the campaign against illegal drugs in his barangay.

According to PDEA Regional director Jeoffrey C. Tacio, Geronimo was the 4th barangay chairman arrested in the region since July 1 and the second in Pangasinan. “Disappointingly, it confirms that several leaders we have elected are involved in the illegal drug trade,” he said.

Lamberto Villa, barangay chairman and known leader of the Dawis Drug Group was killed when he decided to shoot it out with law enforcers who were serving a search warrant in his house at Barangay Tayambani in San Carlos City. (Leonardo Micua with report from PDEA)
