SAN NICOLAS–A suspected gun-for-hire and his companion riding a motorcycle in tandem were arrested in Barangay Bensican, San Nicolas at 9:15 a.m. on April 16 after they were seen trailing the group of incumbent Mayor Rebecca Saldivar while campaigning house-to-house.

Concerned supporters of Mayor Saldivar flagged down and accosted the suspects on board a Yamaha R6 Big Bike colored blue bearing plate number 3264 GB roaming around Barangay Bensican.

The two and their motorcycle were turned over to the San Nicolas police for investigation.

They were later identified as Leonilo Sarmiento, 43, of San Miguel, Nueva Ecija, driver of the motorcycle; and his back rider Teodoro Vicente, 49, of Purok 8, Dalampang, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija.

The motorcycle was verified later on by the police to be registered under the Presidential Security Group.

Following up on the coordination made by the Provincial Investigation Branch of the Pangasinan Police Office and the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office, suspect Sarmiento was found to have standing warrant of arrest for murder in Tarlac and believed to be the leader of the notorious Alakdan gun-for-hire group.

Upon receipt of a copy of his warrant of arrest, Sarmiento was arrested by joint elements of the San Nicolas Police, Pangasinan Regional Special Operations Task Group (RSOTG), Pangasinan Public Safety Company and Police Investigation Branch.

Sarmiento remains under the custody of the San Nicolas police pending his transfer to the court that issued his warrant of arrest. (Leonardo Micua)
