Drunk driver kills four in Urdaneta

URDANETA CITY—Four victims died in an early morning vehicular accident in a provincial road in Barangay Pedro T. Orata here last October 24, caused by a drunk driver.

P/Supt. Jeff Fanged, chief of Urdaneta City Police Station, said the victims Ederlyn Tablada, a saleslady, Rowena Bernarte, a lending company agent, Manuel Nidoy, traffic enforcer, were riding a tricycle driven by Pedrico Cariño when the incident happened.

“They were all going to work as it was eight in the morning when a Toyota Hilux driven by the suspect Dario Revita suddenly overtook the tricycle’s lane causing the collision”, said Fanged.

Revita is a 41-year-old businessman and a resident of Barangay D. Bonifacio Tayug.

The victims were rushed to the nearest hospital but the four victims died while undergoing treatment.

Fanged confirmed Revita was found positive in the alcoholic breath test conducted.

“We filed a case of multiple homicide and reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property against him”, said Fanged.

Fanged said, “This is the first time we encountered a suspect in an accident drunk early in the morning”.

Meanwhile, earlier on the same day a tricycle with five passengers hit a tourist bus in the national highway of Barangay Luna, Bolinao.

The victims who sustained severe injuries were identified as Ricardo Caamoan, driver of the tricycle and passengers, Evelyn Caamoan, Jay- Lee Padilla and Saint Adonis Caamoan, residents of barangay Tiep Bani.

Based on the initial police investigation, the bus was turning when the tricycle bumped it due to zero visibility caused by the morning fog.

The victims were brought to the hospital while the driver of the bus surrendered to the Bolinao Police Station. (Hilda Austria)
