2 “cousins” found dead inside resort hotel

ROSALES—Two male cousins were found dead inside a resort hotel in Barangay Rizal of this town on July 7.

The victims were Bryan Cruz, an SM City employee and resident of Trancoville, Baguio City and Reigner Jospe Mercado of legal age and resident of Barangay Sta. Clara Norte, Pila, Laguna.

Cruz checked in at Cozy Resort Hotel earlier that day and at around 12:00 midnight, Mercado arrived whom Cruz introduced to hotel employees as his cousin.

Tuesday morning, the hotel employees heard the two quarreling inside Cruz’s room prompting them to check their room.

Without opening the door, Cruz told them not to worry as he and his cousin were merely having misunderstanding. But few minutes later, a scream was heard that led the owner of the hotel to instruct his employees to forcibly open the door to check what’s going on inside.

It took them some time to open the main door for it was double locked inside. He then ordered his employees again to climb the balcony of the back door to gain entry into the room.

After opening the door, they saw the victims’ bloodied bodies.

Cruz sustained multiple stab wounds on different parts of his body while Mercado had incised wound in his right wrist and stab wounds in his abdomen.

Investigators found a 10-inches long kitchen knife at the crime scene whose carton scabbard of the knife was found inside a backpack of Cruz.

Police continues to investigate and verify if, indeed, the two are related. (Tita Roces)
