2 men arrested for illegal possession of firearms

MANAOAG–Two persons were arrested by the police in successive raids on two houses, one in Manaoag and another in Malasiqui, last October 24 and 25, respectively.

The first raid took place at 6:00 a.m. of Oct. 24 in the house of one Oliver Dacasin of Barangay Lelemaan, Manaoag by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Giovani Palma of the Municipal Trial Court of Manaoag.

The second was conducted in the house of one Remegio Zapatero, 58, of Barangay Asian East, Malasiqui by virtue of a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Ulysses Butuyan of Branch 51 in Tayug.

Recovered from the house of Dacasin were one Cal. 38 revolver, 16 live ammunition for Cal. 30 (Garand) rifle, 17 live ammunition for Cal. M16 rifle, 10 live ammunition for Cal. 45 pistol, five Cal. 38 live ammunition, one rifle grenade, one 60 MM. mortar, one hand grenade and one magazine for M16 rifle.

The raid at the house of Zapatero at 5:00 a.m. of Oct. 25 by joint elements of Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC), Tayug and Malasiqui police stations yielded one Cal. 45 COLT with one magazine assembly for Cal. 45 and seven live ammunition for Cal. 45.

Zapatero was not present during the raid but the confiscated items were brought to PPSC Tayug for proper disposition.

A case for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1866 as amended by Republic Act 8294 (Illegal possession of firearms and ammunition) has been filed against Dacasin and another is being prepared against Zapatero.
