Bangus Festival preparations in full swing

PREPARATIONS for the Bangus Festival in April kicked off last week with the initial meeting of the event’s executive committee presided over by Councilor Brian Lim, this year’s hermano mayor.

The first activity in the month-long celebration will be the opening of the food strip and tiangge on April 9.

Formal opening ceremonies are scheduled on April 13 will be highlighted by a parade of a grand float to be called “Bangus ed Carosa” around the city.  The “Kapuso Night” will be held in the evening.

Sports competitions to be held during the celebration include Taekwondo and Kayak on Apr. 14-15; the Philippine National Police (PNP) Fun Run, Badminton, the Mayor Benjamin S. Lim Cup Shoot fest on Apr. 21-22; and the Dagupan Darts Competition on Apr. 27-29.

Kids will be treated to hours-long fun and entertainment with the staging of the “Magic Treat Kita Kid” on Apr. 17 and the Stimulation and Therapeutic Activity Center’s (STAC) “Treat Kita Kid” on Apr. 19, both sponsored by the Magic Group of Companies.

Bangus Dagupan will again be the centerpiece of various art activities, i.e., Bangus Art Wall to be unveiled on Apr. 16; Bangus Sculpture, Apr. 17-18; and the Festival Photo Contest, winners of which will be awarded on May 4.

The “Pistahan sa Tondaligan” will be held on Apr. 14, 20 and 28.

Events for foodies include the launching of the Dagupan Lechon on Apr.24; 101 Ways to Cook Bangus, Apr. 25; the Bangus Rodeo, Apr. 26; and the Pigar-Pigar Festival from Apr. 21-29.

Amateur talents and beauty will be featured in the Pasiklaband on Apr. 15; Barangay Videoke Contest on Apr. 15, 17, 19 and 21; Drum & Lyre Competition, Apr. 20; Bikini Open, Apr. 21; Miss Gay Festival Queen, Apr. 22; Danziklaban, Apr. 24; and the Miss Magic Pageant Night, Apr. 27.

The barangays will again compete in the Bangus Harvest and “Gilon-Gilon” street dance competition on Apr. 28.

Capping the spectacle is the once Guinness Book of World Records’ longest grill, “Kalutan ed Dalan” Street Party on Apr. 30.

Other events lined up for the festival are Tattoo Fest on Apr. 18; Telecom Night, Apr. 29 and Barangay Bingo Bonanza on Apr. 16, 18, 20, 23 and 25.

The dates for the Pangasinan’s Best, Bangus Iron Chef, and Kapatid Night events will be announced later.
