Bued Bridge back in service

SISON–President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, in one of her last acts as the country’s chief, led the inauguration of the restored Bued Bridge, the major link between Pangasinan and further north in Luzon.

The bridge, which serves as the passageway of vehicles supplying highland vegetables to Central Luzon and Metro Manila, collapsed at the height of the flood spawned by Typhoon “Pepeng” in October last year and was rendered impassable to all types of motor vehicles.

Inaugurated with a ceremonial drive through were the bridge’s restored Spans 5, 6 and 7 that were destroyed when Piers 5 and 6 settled due to rampaging water from upstream.

The restoration cost more than P120 million.

With the President in the drive through were re-elected Governor Amado Espino Jr., outgoing 5th District Rep. Mark Cojuangco, outgoing La Union 2nd District Rep. Thomas Dumpit Jr. and Department of Public Works Acting Secretary Victor Domingo.

The Bued Bridge was constructed by the government in 1995, replacing the post-war Agat Bridge.–LM
