At least 59 firearms have been confiscated by the Philippine National Police (PNP) provincial force from January 14 to April 7 this year in connection with the enforcement of the gun ban.

This resulted in the filing of   68 cases against 88 persons in different courts of justice.

Most of these firearms were seized by the police at checkpoints.

Provincial Elections Supervisor Reddy Balarbar said the Commission on Elections will continue to conduct joint checkpoints with the PNP in strategic parts of the highways to preempt possible entry of firearms and ammunitions.

In another development, Balarbar said under ‘Operation Baklas’, which is being undertaken in coordination with the Department of Interior and Local Government and barangay officials, a total of  12,842 posters, mostly tarpaulin of senatorial candidates as well as some incumbents local officials, have been torn down.

These posters were either placed in areas not officially designated by the Comelec or not in compliance with the prescribed size—APE
