LPG price rollback continues

CONSUMERS of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the province were elated over the continuing price rollback of the product.

LPG can now be sold at P456 per 11-kilogram cylinder in the province as of Thursday, according to the Department of Trade and Industry provincial office.

The DTI said this is the fourth rollback by major oil companies on the prices of LPG despite the fact that crude oil price per barrel has again increased in the world market.

The rollback may also be due to a slack in the demand during the summer period, according to Marjury Loresco, a DTI officer.

Loresco said another rollback in the price of LPG is expected this late April but this may be temporary as the price of Dubai oil has now reached U.S. 65 dollars per barrel in the world market and continues to rise.

Meanwhile, the DTI monitored that the prices of evaporated and   powdered milk as well as coffee have risen this summer.

Loresco explained the high demand for milk this summer could be due to the onset of the “halo-halo” and other icy desserts that use milk.

The price of coffee beans also increased to P70 per kilo (from P35/kilo in January) as Nestle continues to import some of their coffee beans/powder requirements because of the country’s shortage in coffee production.

The DTI record showed that the last price adjustment for Nescafe products was on August 15, 2005 by as much as 7 per cent.–AQL
