All-night Bangusan Street Party draws 500,000 spectators

ENTERTAINED by top music icons of the country, an estimated 500,000 people from Dagupan and the neighboring towns and provinces went sleepless when they joined the 2024 Dagupan Bangus Festival’s Bangusan Street Party along Jose de Venecia Expressway all night of April 30.

The partying was backed by some 20,000 pieces of Dagupan bangus grilled during the night.

Senators Riza Hontiveros and Lito Lapid, Bacoor, Cavite Mayor Lanie Mercado and other political personalities joined Mayor Belen Fernandez during the ceremonial lighting of the 1,200 grills that officially kicked off the Bangusan Street Party at past 5:00 p.m. when the blazing sun was just beginning to set in the west.

But beginning at 6:00 p.m., people from all walks of life streamed into JdV Expressway to witness and participate in the country’s much talked about street party and to be entertained by top live bands in the country’s music industry.

The presence of movie and television matinee idols kept the crowd cheering. Dagupan City police estimated the crowd to be around one million.

Also among the jostling crowd were Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia and his parents, former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr, and former Congresswoman Gina de Venecia. Other political personalities at the party were Atty. Chel Diokno, Bam Aquino, Atty. Kiko Pangilinan, and Lito Lapid and son Marc.

Congressman Toff de Venecia posted on Facebook: “Congrats to the ever hardworking, dedicated and the best Mayor, Belen Fernandez, and a her team.”

To ensure maximum participation of city employees and national government employees based in Dagupan, Mayor Belen Fernandez issued the day before Executive Order No, 5, Series of 2024 suspending government work on April 30, 2024 and ordered the city police to be on the alert to maintain a peaceful, happy public gathering.

Seen in the crowd were PNP Region 1 Director General Lou Evangelista, Police Provincial Director Col Jeff Fanged and Lt. Colonel  Brendon Palisoc, chief of police of Dagupan City.

The activity was also graced by Department of Health Regional Director Paula Paz Sydiongco and Dr. Roland Mejia of the Region 1 Medical Center. (Leonardo Micua)
