First case of suspected pertussis in Dagupan dies
THE Dagupan City Health Office reported the first case of suspected pertussis in the city last week.
City Health Officer Ophelia Rivera admitted however that another child in Dagupan died of diptheria having manifested symptoms of the diptheria disease. Both patient did not receive vaccines for anti-DPT (Diptheria, Pertussis and Tetanus.
Rivera said the child was registered as a suspected pertussis case because he manifested all the symptoms of pertussis, which are cough, colds and fever.
Rivera said a suspected pertussis case coughs with a whooping sound, that’s why pertussis is also known as a whooping cough.
She said CHO personnel have started making the rounds of the barangays to look for still unvaccinated infants and children.
The vaccine being administered to all infants and children is free.
Rivera called on barangay captains to convince parents to submit unvaccinated infants and children to DPT vaccination to ensure life-long protection from diptheria, pertussis and tetanus. (Leonardo Micua)
