A.B. FERNANDEZ AVE.- ARELLANO-M.H.DEL PILAR CONNECTION

THE construction of a bigger drainage system and the elevation of A.B. Fernandez Avenue, Arellano Street and M.H. Del Pilar Street by approximately one meter to finally end perennial flooding in that area during the rainy season is welcomed by owners of business establishments in the area that will be affected by the project.

This was gathered from Dave Paragas, city information officer, who said DPWH will  start the construction of the project soon after the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) has finalized its plans for managing traffic in the affected area.

Details of the project were discussed with affected owners of business establishments  during a consultation conducted by the joint Dagupan City government and the Department of Public Works and Highways at the city hall last May 15.

Mayor Belen Fernandez, who led the consultation, said the project to be built by regional office of the DPWH under Regional Director Ronnel Tan, will provide for a bigger drainage system that will disgorge rainwater to the Pantal River down below Quintos Bridge.

In addition, the perennially-flooded intersection of A.B. Fernandez Avenue, M. H. Del Pilar and Arellano streets will be raised by about one meter above existing flood level.

Mayor Fernandez said all need to make a supreme sacrifice so that the perennial flooding of the street intersection leading to Dagupan’s downtown area will  be finally  addressed.

The  owners of shops, some restaurants, bakeshops and shops selling car parts  and housewares, footwear and pharmacies, have long complained of the perennial flooding in the area.

The construction will extend in fronts of  University of Pangasinan Phinma, Universidad de Dagupan and Nepo Mall, all located on Arellano Street, and SM City Center Dagupan located on  M.H. Del Pilar Street.

Mayor Fernandez said the consultation was important because the business need to be  heard of their concerns.  (Leonardo Micua)
